Thanks for a rich and wonderful paper, Vallu! Such a great book too. I wondered what you made of Starmer’s recent echo of the ‘Global Britain’ narrative? e.g. the claim that Britain must once again show ‘global leadership and be a force for good in the world’?

Thanks Vallu - always love hearing you talk! My question is around articulations of regionalism, regional sovereignty and identity… thinking about Andy Burnham’s recent popularity as ‘king of the north’ (?!) during the pandemic. How can we understand these appeals in relation to nationalism? What do they obscure / can they escape the same traps as nationalism?

Such a compelling and poetic talk Vallu! Can you say more about the beauty of feral anti-nationalisms? And do you think that nationalisms even shape ‘common sense’ modes of thought in contemporary race studies? I am thinking, for example, of the cultural categories we use or idea of separate histories of ‘different communities’?
