Is it possible that individual schools will ask their exam admin team to set this up for individual exams?
Lynda Young
26:40
Yes Monika, we will be doing all of this for you!
Monika Harvey
26:52

Monika Harvey

thank you Lynda :)

Is it acceptable to say in the instructions "the time is indicated in the exam paper" (or similar) or do we need to include the actual time in the instructions for every single exam?
cw223n
27:59
Would it be possible to have a support session for staff who have never used moodle before? As in a staff beginners guide?
Tania Galabova
28:45
Can when available and expected completion make clear BST or GMT+1 to avoid confusion by students in different time zones
Lyndsay Fletcher
31:31
are the times on the moodle course (for restrict access) in BST?
Linnea Soler
32:40
With the standard General Info: Can we add to this, modify?
John Maguire
32:46
Hi Cw223n there are further drop in session next week, and the how to moodle has a video guides to the basic.s if there is something further or specific you need please fill in the feedback form in the link we will give at the end of the session.
Linnea Soler
33:47
Do we have to use an exam booklet?
Suzanne Robertson
34:06
can student tick the declaration before the exam paper release?
Nicolas Labrosse
34:39
May be worth emphasizing to students that they must refresh their browser after the start time of the exam to access the paper.
Craig Brown
34:48
Yes they can tick it in advance but will not get the paper until it reaches release date/time
Suzanne Robertson
35:37
thanks craig
Linnea Soler
36:15
What is the cut off duration for a fixed length exam (it is 2 hours for 24 hours) what is it, for example, for a 3 hour exam, or a 6 hour exam?
John Maguire
36:35
I've taken a note of the questions that haven't been answered in chat we will get to them at the end of the session
Craig Brown
37:10
I think the cut-off is more about technical upload issues Linnea
Nicolas Labrosse
37:34
Do students have to download the exam booklet and print it? What if they don't have a printer?
Jill Tait
37:46
Does the 100MB also take into consideration students who will be asked to ie, take a picture of working/equations that they have done, and uploaded - will this file size be ok for this type of upload?
Aidan Robson
38:08
Nic we don’t use an exam booklet in P&A
Nicolas Labrosse
38:27
I know, but what about others?
Lyndsay Fletcher
38:30
replying to Jill - typically a photographed page of handwriting is ~1-2 MB in my experience!
Linnea Soler
39:00
We intend our students to hand write responses and then use a scan app (on phone, iPad) that will take photos, stitch together, and convert to a single pdf
Mary Ellen Foster
39:27
If the marking workflow is going to involve downloading the submissions as a zip file blind marking makes it very hard to enter the grades into a spreadsheet later on. Is it okay if we set blind marking to no?
Nicolas Labrosse
39:29
Ok now I see it - the exam booklet is not for printing but to type answers, sorry
Natalie Mcintyre
42:00
can I suggest that on the master "exam paper" section that we mention (you will need to refresh your page if you have logged on prior to the start time of the exam
Kenneth McColl
43:47
Can you clarify the TIME aspect, when students will be across multiple time zones, not all on local BST.
Linnea Soler
46:09
Sorry if I missed this, but can we use the COURSE to simply pull in the enrolled students from MyCampus (by using the course code) without the need for using a CSV file?
Tania Galabova
47:20
Appreciate we are using BST. But this also must be clear on student-facing content. Can we simply add a label 'BST' to make this clear
Morag Casey
47:50
Allowing students to upload multiple miles is really problematic for the markers afterwards. For the last 5 years, we've been requiring students to stictch files to gether and to upload a single PDF.
Morag Casey
48:17
We also required students to limit the single file to 5MB because of latency in slow broadband connections.
Mary Ellen Foster
48:24
Morag do you have instructions you give to students to do that?
Linnea Soler
48:55
If a student can submit more than one file, what happens if they upload several versions of the exam file? Do we select that final one uploaded (do we have the ability to see this) or does each upload write-over the previous one?
Morag Casey
49:28
I tell them those two things verbally (forum post) at the start of the year and leave them to do it. This is first year physics and astronomy, they're pretty technically capanble
Jill Tait
49:33
Would it be possible for a definitive (soft copy) guide on how to set an exam on Moodle be made available? (In addition to this recording) Detailing all of the things covered in the video? Apologies if this has already been shared

“sorry lost last 10 minutes as my broadband dropped!” - a frightening example of foreshadowing…?
Jennifer Booth
54:13

Think so - we can import from a pre-set Moodle’s sections. Talk at 3pm (I’ve a 2-2.30)
